RESPECT

The FA National Game Strategy research and consultation process identified that RESPECT towards officials and better spectator behavior towards young players were the top two issues grassroots football stakeholders want addressed.

Cambridgeshire FA and the Kershaw B league undertook one of 7 pilots of the RESPECT programme across the country during the 2007-08 season.  The results of the pilot can be found in the related documents section on the right of this page.

The purpose of the RESPECT project is to:

Reduce abusive behavior towards referees - and improve retention

Improve sideline behavior and abuse towards young players.

This is achieved through:

Putting more responsibility on the captain

The referee managing the game

Use of designated areas

Codes of conduct.

Following the results of the pilots collated by The FA it was agreed to continue with the RESPECT project at both the Professional Game level and the National Game level (grass roots).
