Sawston United Girls are a new Club for this season and are attached to Sawston United Youth FC.  The girls section was formed by Graham Pearl, who continues to run both boys as well as a girls team. Sawston United Girls are a new club formed this season (2009-10) and with the exception of 1 player in the U13s and 2 players in the U11s team none of the girls have played football before.
The aim for this season is to encourage more girls into football, establish the two teams in the S-tech league and most importantly have some fun.

In a recent article in a well know local Cambridge newspaper, Sawston United Girls were mistaken for and continually referred to as Sawtry United Girls.

Club Anthem, No particular anthem but two of the players in the U13s have cheer leading aspirations, so no shortage of half time entertainment.

Wish List

1. for next season (obtainable):
To improve and strengthen the two current teams and start up a younger U10’s team.

2. Long Term:
To give the opportunity for girls at all age groups to play competitive football in Sawston.

3. Fantasy wish
To see the some of the players develop and progress to academies or elite squads and for the U13s to form the first Sawston United Ladies team in 3-4 years time.

The photo attached is of the U13s and U11s combined and taken pre-season with the newly sponsored Aviaries 4U kit.

Hormead Hares U16 Girls Profile

Club Name: Hormead Hares FC

Status: Standard Charter Mark

Club Website Address: www.HHFC.org.uk

Training Venue / Match Venue: Green Lanes, Braughing for winter training and from Spring, The Meads, Hare Street, Nr Buntingford, Herts.

Training: Wednesday 6pm until 7:30pm

Matches KO: 10:30 Saturdays

Club History:

Hormead Hares Football Club was formed in October 2000. It now has over 240 players registered.

The ages of the children range from 5 - 17, and we play in the Cambridgeshire S-Tech Girls league, Royston Crow Mini-Soccer and Youth Leagues and Mid Herts League. We are an FA Charter Standard Club, and in 2006 we were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

Every one of our squads has a minimum of one qualified Level 1 coach and all of our coaches and many helpers have undergone the F.A. enhanced CRB checks. We have 2 Child Protection officers and 6 qualified referees.

Honours/Awards:

This team of girls amalgamated last season from two teams and each has been successful in its own right. The older girls won the league and were runners up in the League Cup final against Royston in 2006.

As an amalgamated team in there first season they made the Hertfordshire County Cup final coming runners up to Harvesters. They narrowly missed winning the league coming in as runners up.

This year there is the possibility of achieving more as currently they are second in league with only one point separating them from a win and they have a good chance in the league cup. We are also playing St Albans in a Tesco Cup final, the winners of which will play in the Regional Finals.

Club colours: Orange/Black

Club Sponsors: A Hagger and Horizon Contractors

Club Manager/Coach:
Our Manager for his second season is Terry Gilligan, Gary Hunt assists Terry and we have a young, enthusiastic coach Jorden Gibson, currently a successful Goalkeeper playing for Royston and Stevenage Borough, making football his career.

General Profile:

The girls in this team range from those who had never kicked a ball before, to those who have played in teams for many years, mainly Hormead.

To reward and motivate our team we have now been on two tours one to Holland and one to Camber Sands. We had good success at Holland and Camber Sands was a real team building exercise, with the sun making an unusual early May appearance, allowing a rare beach sunbathing session !!!!

One of our more memorable matches is our Hertfordshire County Cup final last year where freak snow in April led to a substantial covering of the pitch, delaying KO as officials decided whether to go ahead or not. Finally, with brooms at the ready the officials swept the pitch in preparation for our final. Some players waited in trepidation, some were too involved in snowball fights !

Football, in this team is not just about the serious nature of training and matches but having fun when the appropriate opportunity arises. Social visits to bowling and restaurants are a frequent form of relaxation.

These girls play to win but they don’t play to win at any cost! They are trained to outwit, outrun and outplay. They applaud fair play and this is the ethos we as a team, indeed as a Club, adhere to. Amateur dramatics and cheating play have no part in Hormead Hares unwritten bible. These girls utilise skills and enthusiasm to reach the high standards they have achieved in the last two seasons.

Wish List:
1. To finish in style this season.
2. To become the first Ladies team for Hormead Hares
3. To win the Tesco Cup not just County or Regional but Nationally !!!
