County Representative Matches

The County has 3 Representative Teams which are run to offer the opportunity of talented players to experience football at a different level against teams from other Counties around the Country.

For many years, the teams have enjoyed the financial support received from Lancaster Insurance Services enabling the County to arrange County Representative football at no cost to the players.

Under 18s male:
This team plays in both the East Anglian Counties Competition – the Len Cordell Trophy section (EACC) [for County Football Associations within East Anglia] and the FA County Youth Cup [a nationwide competition for all County Football Associations].

Whilst the Under 18’s have yet to win the EACC, they secured an important FA County Youth Cup win over Lancashire, 1-0 at Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium in season 1996/97 to hold the trophy for the first time in the history of the Association.

Some 11 years later, in Season 2007/08 the County again featured in the Final, this time against Suffolk at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road, but Cambridgeshire’s name was not to be engraved on the trophy that season, as the team lost valiantly to a strong Suffolk side 2-1.

Under 16s male:
This team again plays in the EACC – the Boardman Trophy section, and has enjoyed real success and praise over the past few seasons by winning the Competition three seasons consecutively in 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09.

Women:
With the rise of girls’ and women’s football to become England’s number one growing sport, the County have followed the progress of the Women’s team with interest and were delighted when the team won its section in the EACC – the Fred Welham Women’s Cup section for the first time in season 2008/09.

County Caps are awarded to any County player making 12 appearances for the County.
A Special Award is made to players who make 25 appearances for the County:

County Trials for all three teams are held in the summer of each year – for further information please contact Chris Abbott, County Representative Teams’ Secretary.
