Following the disappointment of Saturday's loss in the Final of the FA County Youth Cup versus Suffolk, the Under 18s were quickly back into action to complete their last match of the season against Norfolk at Soham Town Rangers FC in the East Anglian Counties Competition. Fielding a side that contained only 3 players who were not in the Squad for the Cup Final defeat, and also bearing in mind that half of them were under 17, it would be interesting to see how the boys would respond.
After the first 10 minutes which were evenly contested the Cambridgeshire side soon began to gain the upper hand and it was clear that we need not have worried about their response as the team began to grow in confidence as the half progressed. Despite Norfolk's best efforts the Cambridgeshire team were rarely troubled and the longer the half went on the more their control of the game became evident. This was rewarded midway through the half when a cross from the right by Sam Parkinson was met by Matthew Bannister who headed home from 6 yards and they went in at half time 1-0.
At the start of the second half Norfolk came out with plenty of fight but once again, from front to back, Cambridgeshire were producing an outstanding display of controlled football. The game was put to rest with 2 more goals midway in the second half, one a fine piece of individual play from Sam Parkinson and the other from Lee Brennan who fired in from a tight angle. The final score was 3-0 and the result was arguably our best in the EACC this season. The result meant that we have finished as runners up in the League but in conclusion, over the season, it has showed us what a great squad we have now assembled and their character was typified by tonight's display.
