Girls'Primary Schools Finals

11:57 AM, Thursday, 17 July 08. Women and Girls

The primary schools girls’ league finals day went ahead at last and this time the weather was scorching, as was the football!

The event took place on Thursday 10th July with the venue being the St Ivo Outdoor Centre, St Ives. With a new football kit at stake, courtesy of FA Cup sponsors E-On, the competition was bound to be one to remember. The day ran smoothly thanks to the support of Bex Morley and Nathan Lund who refereed throughout the afternoon.

The tournament consisted of seven teams who where split in to two groups. After the excitement of two sportingly contested stage competitions, followed by semi finals, the final got underway. The finalists competing for the Cup Winners title were Arbury and Cherry Hinton schools. Refereed by Bex Morley, the match was supported by the other participants who had taken part in the event. Cherry Hinton emerged as winners and like all the competitors during the afternoon showed good sporting behaviour throughout their matches.

The presentation followed where all competitors received a medal for their efforts and the winners got their hands on the yellow and green E-ON kit, which we hope to see them wearing proudly at next seasons events. All of the girls got the chance to take home badges and posters of the England Girls football team courtesy of the Cambridgeshire Football Association.

We would like to thank the teachers and students for your efforts and participation in this event and hope to see you all enjoying your football next year.
