Super-vets Football Starts Soon

Players aged 45 and above are invited to take part in a new monthly super-vets football session at Comberton Leisure.

Venue: Comberton Village College, West Street, Comberton, Cambs, CB23 7DU
Day and Time: Tuesdays, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
Dates: 28th April, 26th May, 23rd June, 21st July and 18th August 2015
Cost: £2 per player

The hour long session will be led by a co-coordinator who will split players into teams and oversee a friendly kick-about. The aim is to allow players, who may have thought their playing days were over, to get back into football, or keep playing with people of a similar age.

Players can play in adult football from aged 16 and there is no upper age limit. Some players in their sixties still turn out weekly in the Cambridgeshire County League but, for most people, keeping up with the pace of the game becomes too much.

The County League runs veterans’ divisions for players aged 35 and above providing competition for those more experienced players. However, there are players in their fifties and sixties who still enjoy a game but struggle to keep up with players in their 30s, some of whom are still playing in the Kershaw Premier Division. And there are plenty of players who stopped playing years ago but would love the chance to get back into football.

Cambridgeshire Football Association is encouraging men aged 45 and above to take part in the new super-vets session at Comberton Leisure. The sessions will run alongside the new Veterans’ Summer Flexi League which provides recreational match-days. The turn up and play super-vets sessions will cost £2 per player.

The first session is Tuesday 28th April, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and will continue every four weeks allowing players time to recover between kickabouts! There is no need to book but players can register their interest by emailing Joanne.Bull@CambridgeshireFA.com or calling Jo on 01223 209035.

Jo Bull, Cambridgeshire FA Football Development Officer, said: “We want people to continue playing football throughout their adult life and are keen to create opportunities for this to happen. The super-vets sessions are a great way for men aged 45 and above to enjoy playing football as well as meeting new people and keeping fit.”
