What is Wildcats?

The FA and SSE have developed an initiative designed to inspire girls aged between 5-11 to be involved in football. SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres provide girls with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment. In 2018, over 800 centres took part, getting over 20,000 girls’ playing football.

The sessions take place on a weekly basis, either after school or at weekends, subject to each local organiser. They provide a safe environment where girls who don’t currently play the game can have fun engaging with sport, make new friends, develop fundamental skills, try a variety of sessions and create foundations for a lifelong love of sport.

Who can apply?

Applications are welcome from any organisation that meets the SSE Wildcats criteria (full list of criteria can be found in the guidance document below). Organisations that delivered SSE Wildcats in either 2016/2017 or 2017/2018 can apply to run additional centres, in doing so they must continue running the original centre(s) they have set up. Organisations will not be funded to deliver new centres that replace existing centres.

Additional SSE Wildcats Centres must run at a different time and must have new/different players.

Successful applicants will be granted £900 of funding, along with some kit and equipment and must commit to a minimum of two years delivery. Any organisation that meets the SSE Wildcats Centre criteria can apply.
