Groundsman of the Year winner announced

The winner of Groundsman of the Year 2019 for Cambridgeshire FA is - Chris Peck of Soham United

An extensive amount of work is carried out by volunteer Groundsman Chris Peck. He has prepared the pitches for many years, which are well ventilated with good grass coverage and minimum divots. The goalmouths are in excellent condition considering the stage of the season. The pitch is perfectly marked and great ground treatment over the season has provided players with a good flat playing surface. New goalposts are arriving soon!

The Club was founded in 1945 and has been providing children in Soham and the surrounding community training and team participation for a number of years; affiliated to Cambridgeshire Football Association and a Charter Standard Club. The club has grown tremendously recently opening a Wildcat centre in April last year and now boasting 2 all girl teams. With 12 youth teams, a Kershaw premier side and reserves they are committed to supporting local football. They even have a veterans team!

The condition of their pitches is of course a crucial element to their success; well-done Chris and many congratulations on a well-deserved award. A trophy and runners up trophies will be presented at the Cambs FA end of season AGM. As a winner Soham United will now be submitted to the National Groundsman of the Year Awards with judging next month!

A special mention to the runners-up for their tremendous efforts over the season in providing great playing surfaces for their clubs:

Andrew Cambridge – Foxton FC

Simon Crow – Cherry Hinton FC

Jamie Cockburn - Meldreth United
