Colts League Bridge the Gap

To help support the step between youth and adult football, the Cambridge and District Colts League will be launching an U18 division for the 2016/17 s

Historically the league has only organised competitions up to U17. Cambridgeshire Football Association hope this new U18 division will encourage players to continue participating in the game by not only increasing team numbers but also providing a smooth transition from youth to adult football.

To try and encourage more players to stay in the game, the U18 division will offer the perfect pathway to adult football. Children now stay in education until they are 18 and are more likely to continue playing football with their friends in a familiar environment. The Cambridge and District Colts League has taken the initiative to support the provision of youth football in Cambridgeshire and to ensure youth players continue through to adult football.

Cambridge & District Colts League Secretary, Julie Gee, said: “I am very pleased to support the expansion of the Cambridge and District Colts League to include the U18 age group and to be developing  links between our league and the senior clubs through this new player pathway.”

Chris Pringle, Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire FA added: “The U18 division is a welcome addition to what is already a very successful Colts League offer. Player retention is a vital part of the Cambridgeshire FA strategy and this U18 transition will assist in achieving that aim.”
