Why we launched the Let Us Play initiative

During the 2021/22 season, we noticed an increase in the amount of poor practice and verbal abuse cases in youth football. Whilst the majority of youth football takes place in a great environment, we did see an increase in adults spoiling football in young people. So, we asked our young players and referees to send us videos, with their parents' consent, answering some questions how they felt about their football experience. What they said, was "let us play". What that meant was, that whilst they love playing football and love getting cheered on for doing something good, they didn't enjoy getting shouted at by adults.

The succeeding actions of this initiative during the 2022/23 was the 32.73% decrease in misconduct charges last season making youth football a more positive for most importantly young people and everyone involved in the youth football game.

We're keen to continue the development of Let Us Play to ensure football is a positive and enjoyable environment for every young player.
