The FA Course for New Referees

The FA Course for New Referees provides the introduction to officiating in 9v9 & 11v11 football. The course will introduce the learner to The Laws of Association Football and most importantly their application delivered through theory and practical elements, outlining the skills required to operate as a match official in grassroots football.

How much does this course cost?
  • £110 - Course only
  • £150 - Course & Kit (Shirt, Shorts, Socks & Flags
  • Cambridgeshire FA do offer reductions for B.A.M.E. and Female candidates (contact us for details)

The course fee includes all appropriate study materials, FA Affiliation and Safeguarding Children Workshop.
The FA CRC Enhanced check is an addition for those aged 16 or over and costs £10.
While refereeing the games in Module 4 you will receive a trainee referee’s match fee and travel expenses to and from the games.

 Course Aims and Objectives

To provide the learners with an introduction to the principles of officiating, delivering six modules of training around the laws, application and practical delivery on the training ground and through officiating a minimum of five matches. The course includes a workshop covering their experiences and detailing what happens next.

Course Content

Theory:
The course will introduce some key aspects in the following:

  • Introduction to officiating
  • Understanding the commitments required to be a referee
  • Fouls and misconducts
  • Submitting reports
  • Multiple-choice examination

Practical:

Practical elements of the course will provide an introduction to:

  • Understanding and application of the laws
  • Practical Skills and attributes
  • Positioning, movement & management

Practical Involvement:
Candidates will be required to participate practically in the sessions.

Course Pre-requisites

Prior to certification, candidates are required to:

  • Attend the FREE introductory session (with a parent/guardian if aged 16 or under)
  • Be at least 14 years of age
  • Completed relevant FA Safeguarding Children training
  • Hold a current FA CRC (aged 16 or over)

Note: The above pre-requisites, for those who do not already hold the appropriate evidence, will normally be provided by recognised centres as part of the learning programme.

12 months
