New Recreational Football Leagues Starting Soon

Summer Flexi Football Leagues are starting soon for men, women and veterans with a separate division for companies (inter-firm). The flexible leagues

The Summer Flexi Leagues are being run by Cambridgeshire FA to provide local people and teams with the opportunity to play hassle free recreational football. Cambridgeshire FA will provide monthly match-days, providing the venue, referees and a co-ordinator to oversee the matches. Paperwork is kept to a minimum. All teams have to do is let the organisers know before each match-day whether they are coming or not, then just turn up, pay and play.

Match-days for each category will be held every four weeks on Tuesday evenings (6.30pm – 8.30pm) until the end of August. The Inter-firm Flexi League kicks off on the 7th April, then men on the 14th, women on the 21st and veterans on the 28th. Teams can enter at any time and take part in as many or as few match-days as they like.

Individual entries are also welcome for the men’s, women’s and veteran’s section. These will either be put together to form a team or placed into existing teams that need an extra pair of legs. The veterans’ match-days will also include a ‘super-vets’ section where players aged 45+ can turn up and play in an organised kick-about.

Teams will have the option to play 6-a-side or 9-a-side depending on how many players they have available and will usually play a number of games in a round robin format. The number and duration of games will depend on the number of teams taking part in that match-day but the organisers will aim for a minimum of 40 minutes playing time for each team and more if they can. Points will be accumulated from the games played. The cost is just £10 per team and £2 for individual entrants per match-day.

Take part: Teams or individuals are encouraged to register their interest at or email Cambridgeshire FA’s adult football development officer, Jo Bull:
