Cambridgeshire referee to officiate at FA Disability Cup
With a world-class backdrop, the country’s largest football event of its kind will feature domestic disability finals in Powerchair, Blind and Cerebral Palsy football.
Additionally for this year, finals will be contested in Amputee and Deaf football.
The FA Disability Cup ensures that players within impairment-specific football have a national FA competition which they can take part in with dreams of reaching St. George’s Park for finals day.
We are happy to announce that one of our referees, Richard May, will be officiating in the FA Disability Cup (EAFA Charity Shield Final) between Everton FC Amputees and Peterborough United FC Amputees.
This is Richard’s first time officiating at the FA Disability Cup. He has previously officiated in Cerebral Palsy National Cups at St George's Park and Nottingham University in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Later that year he officiated in the under-19 World Championships as part of the Cerebral Palsy World Games. This was a fantastic experience for Richard and culminated in his appointment as referee for the England V Scotland bronze medal match.
On his involvement in amputee football Richard had the following to say: “My involvement in amputee football began when I officiated at a regional fixture hosted by Peterborough United Amputees at St Ives last April. The skills and fitness demonstrated by the players was truly something to marvel at, and I'd recommend anyone to take a look at Video Clips on the England Amputee Football Association website (Click Here) to see what it's all about, or better still to get to a fixture as an official or spectator. Suitably inspired, I have since taken up a role as lead referee for the southern region, requiring me to officiate at fixtures in London, Brighton, Portsmouth and the West Midlands in the last season. I've really enjoyed my experiences in disability football so far, and would recommend it to anyone”
All at Cambridgeshire FA would like to congratulate Richard for his appointment and wish him the best of luck on the day.
