Children across Cambridgeshire are invited to join us for our Let Us Play Festival.

Open to children playing in both the U7 and U8 age groups, Cambridgeshire FA’s Let Us Play Festival will be taking place at Histon Recreation Ground on Wednesday 30 August from 10am to 2pm.

Join us for an exciting day, filled with fun activities, mini games – all played in a positive environment to provide a taster of what is to come this season.

While the majority of youth football takes place in a great environment, we did unfortunately witness an increase in adults spoiling football for young people. As a result, we asked our county’s young players and referees to send in videos (with their parents’ consent) answering some questions relating to how they felt about their football experience.

The main response: “Let us play” – and so the Let Us Play initiative was born.

This highlighted that whilst they love playing football and love getting cheered on for doing something good, they didn’t enjoy getting shouted at by adults.

Following the launch of the Let Us Play initiative, in 2022/23, we witnessed a 32.73% decrease in misconduct charges locally, making youth football more positive for, most importantly, young people and everyone involved in youth football.

Cambridgeshire FA is keen to continue the development of Let Us Play, to ensure football is a positive and enjoyable environment for every young player.

We are looking for young players to be a part of our Let Us Play video shoot which is an initiative published by Cambridgeshire Football Association via social media, club communication and more. 

We also require parents/coaches to be in the video, seated on the side lines so if you could stay for the event that would be a huge help!

As per FA rules, children under the age of 6 are NOT permitted to play football in organised matches. We ask that teams ensure that all players are aged 6 at the time of the festival, and will be in the U7 age group for the 2023/24 season.
